Modern Myth 1
Welcome to Modern Myth 1!
This semester-long course is designed to introduce students to project-based learning using modern mythology: comic books and superheroes as content. Each unit introduces students to a different way of showing what they are learning.
Daily lessons will help students become better readers, writers, speakers and listeners.
We will explore many topics, texts, and questions including the following:
Seeing and Discussing the Hero Cycle in Superhero Films: How does the main character fit into the hero cycle? How is their hero’s journey relevant to us as individuals and as a collective society? How do we have conversations about these questions with each other in a natural and engaging way?
Comic and Graphic Novel Book Club: How does storytelling help us understand other perspectives, points of view, experiences, and cultures including my own? How can I express these understandings?
Podcast: How do we explore a complex character and learn from that character’s experiences in our own world today? How do we plan, record, and edit a podcast?
Thor Infographic: Is Thor a relevant character to modern audiences? How do we know? How can we gather data to answer the question?
Black Panther Project: How and where do we connect thematically/topically to Black Panther? How do we create an engaging project to teach our peers?
Passion Project: Where does my curiosity and passion lead me? What do I want to learn more about and how do I want to communicate that learning to the rest of class?
